Poll times

Council Elections

I can't find the times the polls are open on the town site. Anybody know?

Also, they mentioned that new voter cards were being sent; anyone received these?

Civics 101

Council Elections

There seem to be a lot of people who are unhappy with the current town council and mayor. I've been here for a while and can tell you that previous iterations of this body haven't been any better. In my experience, the people who want these positions are precisely the people who should not have them. We can gnash our teeth and rend our clothing to each other on this forum about the various improprieties the council and mayor and the police department have allegedly committed, or we can do something.

What is the town government empowered to provide you for your tax dollar? Read the town charter and you’ll find it's very little. What are the tangible services you receive? The ones I’m aware of are the police department and trash pickup. Anything else? Haymarket Day. The parade. That it? One additional thing I receive from the Town is a tax bill for more that $600. This is in addition to the taxes I pay to Prince William County. This tax burden is an exorbitant price for an additional layer of bureaucracy which provides very little or no service. Particularly with the current economic downturn, who couldn’t use a little more money in their pocket?

Homemade signs

Council Elections

It seems that some current council member has put up homemade campaign signs in Haymarket. Its good to see that they have spirit for the election, too bad there signs don’t comply with the State Board of Elections campaign material requirements.
"Campaign material", must follow the required identification on a candidate's campaign material is as follows:
"Paid for by (insert name of candidate)"
OR
"Paid for by (insert name of candidates campaign committee)"

Glen put that in your pipe and smoke it.
But what do you expect, they cant even do the right thing with there council position. Come on Haymarket vote for faces of change. Not the same old useless people.

Who are these People?

OK, All you new folks running for Council...Let's hear from you. Who are you? What is your plan for the town? We already know the current council....What are you going to do to make things better? How will you do things differently? I can't give you my vote unless I know who you are and what you stand for...

· 2) - I want for each of the candidates running for Town Council and Mayor to set forth, in the media, independently, his or her plan to raise or not to raise - real estate taxes, the Business Tangible Personal Property Gross Receipts Tax, Business License and Business License Renewal fees, Text Amendment Fees, Vehicle Registration Fees, Vehicle Registration Renewal Fees, Food tax, Cigarette or Tobacco Surtax, Building Permit/Application for Certificate of Appropriateness, Electrical Permit, Mechanical Permit, Plumbing Permit, Demolition Permit - how much and when for each category; come on lets get it out in the public.
