Bull Run Middle School Teacher Caught in Sex Scandal

Ok, those of us who were watching the news yesterday saw the news about how a teacher was caught up in a sex scandal. Once again, our community is in the news.

The teacher was a science teacher at Bull Run Middle School. He was caught having sex with a minor (16 year old girl), upon further investigation, they found child porn on his computer.

The school has been open 6 years now, and has something happen at least one time a year. The principal has been the same for all of them, does this tell us something? Maybe it is time for a change.

Sometimes Weir Amazes Me!

Did anyone see the article in the paper the other day about Bob Weir?

<a href="http://www.potomacnews.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=WPN/MGArticle/WPN_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1173354550188"_blank">Stewart cool on land rezoning

The article states, "It's Weir's contention that the county did not follow state code when it approved the rezoning at Haymarket Landing."

Are you kidding me? The Town of Haymarket is going to point out Zoning Violations to the County?

Maybe they should follow and/or enforce their own zoning code before they try to tell someone else what they have done wrong.

Villages of Haymarket

The Villages of Haymarket homeowners made a motion Tuesday night for the immediate removal of their current HOA Board of Directors. This includes the following positions:

Traci Wrobel, President
Ester Boykin, Vice-President
Femi Cole, Secretary

This seems very unusal since this doesn't happen that often in small associations.

More Information to Follow.

UPDATE

September 27, 2007

All of the above board members were voted out of office on this date. New Board Members have been elected!

Town Council Meeting

OK, so tomorrow night is the Town Council Meeting.
Many of us have expressed our displeasure with the Police Dept, our outrage at the treatment of Officer Ishmael and our dismay with the way the mayor and the town council seem to be handling this.
I want answers. I feel we all want answers.
The question is, who among us is going to walk the walk instead of just talking the talk?
I plan on attending. I sincerely hope others do. If we don't speak up, who will be left to speak up when this obviously inept Police Dept decides to target one of us?
Come on citizens, make your voices heard.

Something was missing in my copy of the Post

After reading some of the recent posts, I thought it odd I hadn't noticed the stories in the Washington Post on Sunday so I went back through it and couldn't find the articles mentioned (about the ongoing antics of Roop and Company). Then I realized-the Prince William section was missing from my paper!
Did anyone else in Haymarket have that problem? I hope not- I hope it was just mine....because if someone is removing sections of the paper to keep townspeople from reading it...well thats kind of like stealing isn't it?

People of the "Town of Haymarket"

It has been amusing watching your town air everyones dirty laundry. Being a resident of Haymarket, not in the town, I feel I must say the following.

To the people of the Town of Haymarket:

You all are a bunch of relocated Manassas Park rejects. I have never seen such a blue-collar area make so much noise. When on occasions I have to drive through the town, I make sure to tell my children to put the windows up and not feed the animals. I am embarrassed when relatives come to visit us and we drive through the town and see big tool trucks sitting in peoples driveway on Jefferson Street. As far as the police department, I’m not sure what the complaints are for, what do you expect from police who want to work for a country bumpkin town. I’m sure they all have their G.E.D, so there more than qualified to protect Haymarket. I am sure we will not be hearing about the town much now since NASCAR season has started. As far as some dog getting shot in the town, who cares? Oh and by the way what kind of dog was it, a golden retriever, no it’s Haymarket it must be a pit bull. Remember Haymarket “It’s not a crime to be stupid, it just happens”.

Selling of Town Center

It's funny how the last we heard, the majority of the people in Town wanted to have the gov't centrally located in Town. But now, the Council has decided to go ahead and try to sell the Town Center property...for an asking price of $3.8 million. WOW! Have they not seen market values go down? Do they need Mr. Garcia back on Council to advise them? The rumor is that they turned down about $3 million last year!

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Hey Webmaster and/or owner of site,

I heard through the grapevine (Sgt. Breeden) that he and the Chief are looking at possibly filing a lawsuit against you for the information that is posted on this website. Man, is his attorney milking their money. See an excerpt below from another website that handles situations such as these. Maybe they should refer their attorney to these court decisions!

Article from the website: Black Velvet Bruce Lee

<a href="http://www.bvbl.net/?p=166"_blank">Freedom of Speech
(Click above link to read the full article.)

By RHarrison | 3 August 2006 | Blogs | 11 Comments

I first became involved with BVBL over attacks on the original owner of this site’s right to criticize a political candidate. This site is now being attacked by friends of another political candidate for making fun of her using a photograph. Neither of these claims have any merit under the law. Moreover, they are direct attacks on basic first amendment rights that form the foundation of our democracy.

The most important and fundamental right all citizens must enjoy to have a functioning democracy is the right to criticize their political leaders and those who wish to be political leaders.

It does not matter if the speech being used is mean, irreverent, satirical, harsh or even, in all but the most extreme cases, wrong. American citizens get to criticize people running for and holding political office.

Why is that so hard for people to understand?

This basic premise is well established in constitutional law, something I would think the lawyers who regularly post to this site would know.

To quote the great Justice Felix Frankfurter in Baumgartner v. United States, <a href="http://supct.law.cornell.edu/supct-cgi/get-us-cite/322/665"_blank">322 U.S. 665, 673-674 (1944), “[o]ne of the prerogatives of American citizenship is the right to criticize public men and measures.” In Hustler Magazine, Inc. v. Falwell (No. 86-1278), the court (specifically, Rehnquist) cited Frankfurter specifically to make the point that public officials and candidates must expose themselves to criticism, even if such criticism is unfair.

From MONITOR PATRIOT CO. v. ROY, 401 U.S. 265 (1971): “[T]he candidate who vaunts his spotless record and sterling integrity cannot convincingly cry “Foul!” when an opponent or an industrious reporter attempts [p52] to demonstrate the contrary.”

<a href="http://www.bvbl.net/?p=166"_blank">Click here to read the rest of the article: Freedom of Speech
