Town Pays Police Chief Overtime? - Cont:

Haymarket Police Department

This Forum was continued to this new section since I felt that the other section was getting too crowded/confusing. Please continue to post comments/exchanges in this section.

Enjoy!

It has recently come to my attention that the town has paid the Police Chief overtime. Why? He is a salaried employee! Once again, the citizens of Haymarket are suffering due to the Town Council. What other jurisdiction in the state pays overtime to their Police Chief?

K9

Who pays for the "non-working" K9 that rides in the red cop car--like the vet bills and dog food? I believe that would be the Town with resident tax dollars. Maybe everyone with a dog should send the Town their own vet bills and dog food receipts. All for one and one for all!

The dog works

Actually the dog does work. Apparently he likes to bite uniformed Haymarket police officers. One of whom is lucky to still have all his fingers. Guess that explains why you won't see the dog out of the car unless he is defecating at Pace West.

Working Dog

I do beleive that anyone who was at the Police Night Out celebration behind PW's and saw the K9 demonstration, would notice that the dogs favorite chew toy is a training sleeve.

Upon issuing the release command after the K9 had grabbed the arm of the "suspect", the dog continued to shake the officer until the sleeve came off, all the while Jim (Chief/K9 Handler)was trying to get the dog to release.

Dog works more than former mayor

Dave, that's more work than a recent former mayor who didn't execute contracts or MOUs, address outstanding bills or follow instructions from the Town Council. Why don't you just stay retired.

Justice - Concrete - EyE - Cops/Dogs

Anyone who has been to any of the Council meetings and listened to the Council discuss the dog or just driven through Town has heard the talk against the beast in the red car. While the k9 and k9 handler have been trained and certified, it's hard to find any hard evidence of the mutt doing anything worthy of recognition or bravado in the Town limits.

That being said, the vet bills, food bills and other k9 supplies are constantly adding up. Not to mention the time it takes for the handler to remain trained and up to speed on his certifications. This training takes him away from the Town for those hours and hours each month/quarter. I'm sure those funds could be used elsewhere to fund other programs for the PD.

Justice/Concrete/Eye: I'm not sure who you are; whether you live in Town; whether you just pass by from time to time; whether you are a current or former mayor; a busybody or what...but you both have to admit that the dog is not needed in our small Town. If there are circumstances that merit a k9 search, I'm sure PWC or the State Police would gladly assist. After all, did Andy and Barney have a dog to patrol Mayberry?

Which leads me to the next point: Andy/Barney managed to keep things quiet with just the two of them. They both lived in Town and were probably just a quick call or knock on a door away in case things got messy. The two people in charge at the PD live 40 miles outside of Town. Why don't any of the Haymarket cops live in Town? Why does the Town need 5 paid cops? Even at 5, I dare say there isn't 24 hour coverage. If something goes "bump" in the middle of the night, most folks call PWC anyway.

Insulted

I am mildly insulted that you think I could be the former mayor. I know more about the inner workings of the town than he ever did and more than any of the current members of our fair government do. I deal with the town every day. I know everything that takes place during executive session. I know what is in every file. I know all the secrets. There is nothing that passes through the town that I don't know about.

What else would you like to know?

Justice - recent former mayor comment

Justice - you are certainly free with your criticism and accusations of a "recent former mayor" who has moved out of the Town and is staying "retired". If you have proof that a "recent former mayor" didn't "execute contracts etc.", where is it? Also, interesting name you have chosen for yourself "Justice" - where is your justice or do you have your own brand of justice that is criticizing and tossing around accusations without any basis or proof?

Not sure

Not sure who you are addressing. Are you disputing any facts concerning the K9?
