Only in Haymarket

Haymarket Police Department

Only in Haymarket can a person get a ticket for being REAR ENDED! When was the last time anyone can remember when a car hit someone else in the rear and the car in front gets a ticket???
I guess that 1st the person that gets the ticket has to be a foreigner and 2nd, the driver hitting the poor fool has to be a Town Worker or Friend of the police officer giving the citation.
What a Town WE live in !

Ihave heard

I have heard that the person in the front who gets rear ended can get a ticket, if the slam on their brakes for a wrong reason, such as:

1. A squirrel runs across the road and you slam on your brakes.
2. A patrol car is performing radar, and someone is obviously going to fast, and they hit the brakes to try and avoid the ticket.

But this is also a double edged sword, the person in the rear needs to be aware of the enviroment, and give plenty of braking distance for the unknown. I believe from the Driver's Ed Course I took in High School so long ago called it "The Two Second Rule" where you pick a landmark the car in front of you passes by and you count. If less then two seconds pass before you pass it, you are two close.

But then again, could have been a cop like Mark Furman of the LAPD, and look at what happened with a routine DWI stop. One of the largest riots in LA.

Maybe we should riot over this one too.

Rear-ended

What were the circumstances around the accident? Was it you that got the ticket? On which street? Which police officer cited you? We want details!!

Was it this morning in the awful traffic on 55?

Not I

Nope, not I but some poor foreigner....

Sat afternoon, 3/18/06 roads were dry, clear skies

and the poor sap was cited and the "Friend" of the officer was let go!

Maybe, the poor forigner had the wrong bumper sticker on his vehicle??? I understand "Hoffman" is not a good thing to have on your car.....

Stopped on the traveled portion of the highway

Sounds like a case of stopping on the travel portion of the highway that contributed to an accident comes to mind.

glep...traffic cop

Can you please cite the VA code section you are referring to?

It could happen if a

Sorry I cannot quote the code that the driver got the ticket for, I have not seen the traffic ticket nor the traffic incident that truckstop_man is talking about. And, I doubt that a Police Officer is going to have his or her case heard in this unofficial forum.

A driver of a rearended vehicle could be cited - if the motorist rearend pulled his or her vehicle out in the traveled portion of the highway, without regard to the location/ proximity etc. of the on coming traffic, and then abruptly came to a stop if the incident lead to an auto mobile accident; especially if the action(s) were observed by a Police Officer.

However, I am suspicious that "truckstop_man" perhaps only told part of the circumstances surrounding the alledged ticket writing incident.

Did you ever think that

Then on the other hand - Did you stop and think that perhaps no one really got a ticket?

bumper sticker

Now that's a cool sticker...wonder if they are making a statement about the upcoming election or about the fact he was let go for blowing the whistle? I haven't seen any of those around Town...but will be looking for them now.

sticker

I am proud to bare a Hoffman sticker on my vehicle. :)

I dunno, but as liberal as

Traffic

Man did traffic suck this morning...what the heck was going on? Took 15 minutes to get from the bank to the cleaners. We need to widen the street and make a turn lane or something.
