Bob Weir Stomps Out as he Resigns!

Haymarket Town Council

Haymarket Councilman Bob Weir handed in his resignation this evening after throwing another fit during the council meeting.

For more information on his last tirade, see Sparks fly as town council debates $2.3M property deal.

On the way out of town hall, a citizen commented, "good riddance." Mr. Weir stopped suddenly and stated, "why don't you step outside and repeat that!"

See his resignation letter below.

Resignation Letter from Bob Weir

This is a new beginning for the town! Now if only the Mayor would follow suit.....

Funny

What a way to depart. This guy was suppose to be a level headed responsible person and make sound decisions on behalf of the town. Now over the past few months he has disgraced every citizen that voted him into office. Don't feel bad for him but look at this as a way for the town to get a new and improved council member.

The town manager is a bigger idiot with his head in a hole if he thinks keeping Weir is in the best interest for the town. Maybe the town manager's position should be evaluated to determine if he is really needed.

Mr. Weir

I use to think Mr. Weir was a pompous ass, but he seemed to do the right thing this time. Mr. Weir showed his true colors, he did not get his way, so he took his ball and went home. God Bless you Mr. Weir and I hope Ms. Stutz follows soon. I believe Mr. Ozzie Vasquez has shown great abilities to make decisions without being lead around by the current council. I hope the town makes great changes this election and puts Haymarket on a positive track.

Town Manager wants Weir back??

Can you believe this? Only in Haymarket!

Town manager Gene Swearingen said town officials are hoping Weir rescinds his letter.

“The sense of the council is he has been a valuable asset to the town here. I think they would like for him to stay,” Swearingen said.

Not a sad moment for most of us. Bob was just one piece of the puzzle that needed to be replaced. Let's hope that the mayor loses her seat as well and then maybe the council will finally be able to do some good for the town.

Council opening

Anybody know how they fill the slot Weir's resignation leaves in the Council? Does the charter require there be 6 members in order to conduct business?

Can Stutz appoint someone to serve out the rest of his term, or can they leave it open since the elections are in May?

Vacancy

The Council may appoint someone from the Town to fill the empty slot. With there being over 5 months left on his term and so much business to conduct between now and then, I think that the Council will have to find another body to fill the chair.

Not only do they have the property sale to contend with, but also it's almost budget time, they are still reviewing the comprehensive plan and have a number of other projects on the table.

I would look for a letter from the Town this week to solicit letters of interest from residents to fill Bob's slot. I would then expect them to pick someone during their February meeting.
