Sometime soon the Virginia Department of Transportation will build the first speed hump in Prince William County in several years.

It might not be such a big deal if it weren't on a road that saw tens of thousands of cars every day.

It's going to be installed on Jefferson Street in Haymarket -- the busy Va. 55 - between Fayette and Washington streets.

The speed limit on this road is 25 mph and town officials have worried about speeders for a long time. Perhaps this is their answer to a slower, safer town.

Speed Bump

If the town police would do their jobs this wouldn't be an issue. Why has the town not dealt with them? Fire them all and wish them a Merry Christmas!

I am truely not impressed

I am truely not impressed withthe Town's Management. Our new town manager has done nothing to address many issues in the town. Our crosswalk that was brick was finally fixed...with ashpalt ( looks very nice)
The town police issue I belive will not be solved by him, it is my knowlege that he has no oversight over the police department. I know of no other municipality where the town manager has no authority over the police department. In all honesty they will not do anything about the department My advice is to request a county police officer for your needs and they will send one even if a town officer is working.

Speed Bump

Does the speed bump have anything to do with the fact that the mayor of the town and a council member lives on that section of roadway? What's even more of a joke is that the chief is always at the mayors house. No wonder speeders go flying by. He doesn't do radar and his head is too far in a dark place to notice. Thanks for the radar spots Enforcer. Washington St and Coach Way is where I always see them at the Church all the time.

Radar Locations

A recent survey and observation of Haymarket PD showed these locations in town as the premier radar spots.

On Washington St across from Coach facing Jefferson,
Washington St at the church facing both directions,
I66E on ramp (catching speeders going eastbound at dusk and night),
Jefferson and Jordan sitting on Jordan using a hand radar or their car sitting rear towards bridge and also at restaurant,
Jefferson and Fayette sitting both on Jefferson near Fayette or on Fayette facing Jordon,
And their favorite spot in the late hours around 11pm is at Shell facing Jefferson.

Hope this helps everyone... I'm not advocating speeding, but I also don't approve of the police department and want desperately for Prince William police to take over.

As for the speed bump, I think it will be the only way to help with speeders on that section of roadway. Even though the listed locations include Jefferson and Fayette it is not as popular as Washington and Coach. I see the bike officer sitting on Jefferson during the day time getting people coming up from the tracks. He usually sits at the lodge using his hand radar.

Don't count on the chief giving out any tickets if you see him. The courts wont believe a word that comes out of his mouth. So be relieved when you pass by his car speeding. He probably doesn't even carry any tickets in his car.

Speed Hump was Necessary

They had to get a speed bump in town due to the fact that the Chief of Police failed to properly monitor the traffic on that street. His Officers very RARELY wrote tickets for speeding on Jeffereson Street in that section.

As a matter of fact, if you check the Court records, the Chief of Police HAS NOT written a ticket since Jan of 2005 and that was only 1 ticket! Must be nice for the town to pay him 60K a year to do nothing.....only in HAYMARKET!

That is true ! Incredible.

That is true ! Incredible. That would be the approximate time that the town prosecutor at the time sent the letter saying she could not prosecute his cases due to him lying about the other officer leaving court to go to classes ( see the documents section)
