Two people were stabbed at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at a gas station in the 15300 block of Washington Street in Haymarket, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.

Police charged Larry Lexus Carter, 37, of 3321 Short St. in New Orleans, with two counts of aggravated malicious wounding after they said he stabbed a 32-year-old Haymarket man in the back and a 25-year-old Fairfax woman in the chest.

Carter was acquainted with the man and the woman and stabbed them during an argument, Hernadez said.

Carter left the scene before police arrived, Hernandez said

A patrol officer in the area of Lomond and Amherst drives in the Manassas area spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one Carter was driving and tried to stop him, Hernandez said.

The officer said Carter sped away and crashed into three telephone and electrical poles which interrupted power to the area.

Police caught Carter after he crashed into the utility poles, Hernandez said.

Carter was also charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, felony destruction of private property and driving on a suspended license.

He was held without bond, Hernandez said.

Carter is scheduled to appear on court on Aug. 6 for the malicious wounding charges and on Aug. 24 for the other charges, Hernandez said.

The stabbing victims were flown to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Hernandez said.

What a shame

I am so ashamed at the Haymarket Police Department for not being more involved in this matter! It is my understanding that no officer was working when this happened. This is just unacceptable. Why is there no officer's working past midnight? The department has 6 reserve officer's and last time I checked three full time officers. Did the chief or sergeant respond to the scene to assist or to give a press hearing on the matter? That is normal procedure for most departments to have a representative speak to the press about a major crime like this that will most likely be in the paper. Like another post said, the two take home their patrol vehicles and live about 40 minutes away, but the purpose of having a take home vehicle is to respond to emergencies like this. Glad nobody was serious wounded or killed. I would imagine a huge thank you goes out to Prince William County Police for finding the vehicle involved and catching Mr. Carter. Nice job guys!
