Town Allows Homeless to Live on Property!

Town Properties

Last week neighbors noticed that a homeless man was living on the front porch of the building right next to the Police Department. Some thought this was odd because surely the Police would have noticed and asked the homeless guy to move on??

Concerned residents called the non-emergency number for Prince William County Police. This is the number you call to get Haymarket Police to respond to calls in the town. Well, you guessed it, NO ONE was working in Haymarket! A Prince William County Officer had to respond once again to take a call in Haymarket. He approached the Homeless gentleman who stated that he had been living there (on the front porch) for several weeks. Now this is the best part....

He states that he has the permission to stay there from Haymarket Mayor Pam Stutz! This was confirmed by calling Town Hall. Once again, what is this Mayor thinking? What about the town's liability if this guy gets hurt at night on the property? What if this guy does something to one of the children or people in the nearby neighborhood? Did the police run a background on him?

Com'on Mayor! Wake-up! We know you don't have sense when it comes to the Police Department but at least look out for the citizens of this town, the ones that live here and pay taxes.

Unbelieveable!

haha

This one makes me laugh !!!

This is why the Neighborhood

This is why the Neighborhood watch meeting that was started in the Green Hill Crossing side in the county includes the Haymarket side. We specificly asked if we could call the county police rather than the town and the officer from the county said it really was the towns area. We explained that there were never any town police available and would rather call the county. At that time a Corpral from the town, Spoke up and said that they were dispatched by the same radio as the county police and would come. He left just after that and we again asked that the county come and he stated that Prince William could allways respond to a call and that requesting a county officer might be an option if you ask for one.
The sheriff of Prince William County was also there and in speaking to our neighbor he said that they do not routinely perform law enforcement duties but allow the county police to handle the calls so they are not an option.
Here is my concern, we have repeatedly asked and inquired about what is going on with the town yet they hide behind the "need to know" as far as a schedule, this dog training and even criminal charges incurred by their officers. Why are we allowing our tax dollars to be squandered by the people?
Back to this homeless person, do we know who he is or his background? This would be an excellent opportunity to see what is allowed into our community at our mayor's blessing. I find it totally shocking that they would allow a unknown person free acess to quite literally the towns doors step.

Unbelievable

I can not believe that the Mayor gave permission for a homeless person to set up shelter on the property of an abandoned building right next to a police department. How does that look for our town or our police department? This is the reason why nobody has any respect for the town mayor or the police department. As for no haymarket cops working, they never work. I spoke with former officer Ishmael who was in charge of the neighborhood watch program and implemented it and he said that Greenhill Crossing was not in the initial program when he started it. He was ordered to start the program in Long Street Commons and then go onto Haymarket Station. He wanted to start in Greenhill Crossing but that he was told not to bother. This type of problem is what the town does not need. We dont need to become a stopping spot for homeless people. I think that if the town wants to help out then set up a food drive and hand it over to the homeless on a scheduled day and help out that way but dont bring the town down with unsightly and unwanted scenery. Is there no laws on this in the State of VA or any town ordinances?
