"The Haymarket Smoking Gun"

Recall?

Haymarket Town Council

I for one am tired of the way this town is being run. The people in charge are not playing by the rules. They need to answer to the residents for what they are doing.

Since they will not listen to the residents when they complain, here's another way:

Under Virginia law, a petition to remove an elected official must be signed by a number of registered voters equal to at least 10 percent of the votes cast in the election. The petition would then be filed in Circuit Court, where a judge would determine whether to remove the elected official. The judge must find evidence of "neglect of duty, misuse of office or incompetence in the performance of duties" that has a material adverse effect on the office in question.

Ok, 10% of the 196 votes would only be 20 people! There are at least 20 different people in this forum who are speaking against them.

I think, that if someone was to mobilize and begin to gather the signatures, then someone else could write a letter to the Court detailing why it is in the best interest of the Town to remove the Mayor and Bob Weir from office. Explaining how the Mayor and Bob Weir are incompetent wouldn't be too hard. Just look at the things they've let the PD get away with. At nothing else, the failure of them to hold the Chief up to a high level of decorum would be enough for most. Given his history and track record, most people with common sense would see he is not fit for the job.

The fact that the Mayor and Bob Weir continue to defend him is absurd. The obviously are neglecting their duties to the residents to protect their best interests. Just the fact that after the last time the PD was involved in a sexual harassment case, they never got rid of the problem (Chief). It’s so bad, that now, they face even more complaints – from a 17 year old girl! Who had her best interests in mind? I guess since she can’t vote yet, they don’t consider her feelings valid and have decided to neglect their duty to investigate.

Second to that is that the Mayor has allowed this Council to ignore huge problems throughout the Town as well as numerous zoning issues. The roads are horrible, the crosswalks are sinking into the ground and our sidewalks are all cracking away. Neither she nor the Council has been proactive in enforcing zoning violations. That is a pure case of neglect if I’ve seen one. Our tax dollars are supposed to go towards keeping these things in proper order and they have failed to properly spend our money to do so.

At one point, the Mayor had failed to pay past due rent on the Red Rooster when she ran the store there, accumulating quite a debt that it took months for her to pay. That by itself could be considered a fraudulent act if not at the least dishonest. She was taking home the Mayor’s salary while not paying her back due rents!

I’m not saying that this will work or that even the idea will take root. But maybe, since the good Council spends a bit of time each week reading this site – they will think about the real consequences of their actions. Or should I say inactions? Let’s just give it some honest thought.

I have no problem assisting

I have no problem assisting with getting the mayor booted out of office. I would gladly sign any petition needed and so would my neighbors. Like others have mentioned on here, I doubt it would be impossible to get atleast 100 signatures even if only 20 is needed. I like the vice mayor John Cole. He has been helpful with a lot of things and I don't believe he would turn a blind eye to the corrupt police department. I think every resident of our town should voice their concerns and if we can't do it during a board meeting then lets do it the other way and make this happen. I too voted for Pam Stutz and if I knew that she would allow the police department to continue their devious ways I would never have given her my vote. I was under the impression that she was going to get rid of the chief and sergeant and bring in new people. Well we saw new people and they are gone but it was the wrong people. I wonder why it is that every new officer that was hired since last year is suddenly gone but the three remaining ones are still there after they each had destroyed the towns reputation with other police departments!

I Agree!

I have been asking for something like this for awhile. I just said the other day that the mayor and town council need to be held accountable for the actions they have failed to protect us from. A corrupt police chief that creates a hostile work environment and lies to the press and loses his credit in court, a sergeant that also get implicated in a sexual hostile work place and gets his gun taken away, then a corporal that resigned from pwcpd for lying during his IA. The mayor has backed these three for the past years that she has been involved with the town council. The same goes for any board member that was aware of the problems and refused to take notice and request change. The mayor is especially held accountable because she is more than friendly with the police. She has backed them on every occasion even when she knew it would be wrong of her to do so. The town needs a new mayor and Now along with a few new council members. I am up to helping get a petition signed and I am sure that others of the town would also agree to sign. I think there is more than enough evidence or lack of to keep the mayor in her current position. She knew of all the issues with police, town roads conditions, and other problems. KICK HER OUT OF OFFICE! Let's get this going ASAP!

Lets get started

We need to get this thing started. Who is going to start the petition and present it to the circuit court clerk to initiate this. I would love to see the mayor and Bob Weir be removed from office. They are the ones that have allowed the town to be tarnished with a bad reputation with the police department and they are also the ones that seem to forget how the town needs to progress with improvements rather than watch the town become run down.

helping out

I know someone that is willing to gather signatures and I'm sure more than 20 can be obtained. It would look even better to have 100 signatures and I don't think that would be too impossible.

Sign the Petition

Everyone please sign the petition to get rid of the Mayor. When we have a new Mayor, maybe we can clean house and get rid of the crooked police department. Something needs to be done. Right now they think they have won and they are sitting back gloating because no one got up last week at the town meeting and spoke up. It really is a shame that the chief of police is so corrupt that everyone is afraid of him, knowing that he will retaliate against you. He has been seen driving down the street, driving back and forth, pointing his finger at the poor girl who was allegedly involved with Officer Ishmael. Just because she spoke up against the way she was treated and now she and her family are being intimidated by the police department. I have seen the sergeant sitting in a parking spot facing her house watching them. Now if that isn't intimidation, between him and the chief, I don't know what is. Do we really want a police department that scares us and our families? Do we want a Mayor who allows all this to happen? What does the chief have on her that she allows him to get away with his corruption? Our town deserves better than what we have now in the way of people running it. And we definitely need a police department that we can trust to defend us and make us safe - not scare us into doing what they want us to do. We need to take a stand and do something now.

Petition

It is in the works and the wording is being reviewed by some trusted outside advisors. Keep posted.

Petition

What is the story on the petition? Is it still going around getting signatures? I think the entire Council needs to go and get all new people and new blood in there to run the Town right. While we are at it, what about the Town Manager? Is he just their flunky or is he a reject from Fairfax who has no idea how to run a town either? He doesn't seem to be able to stand up to the Mayor and run the Town right. Maybe he needs to be replaced too.

In the works

I was told that the issue is still being looked into and just takes time. It will be done and hopefully it will make a difference.

Count on me

I for one am sick and tired of what the Mayor and Police Department has done to our town. They have caused all of us a great amount of shame because they don't know how to work their required positions without making people upset from lack of judgment. Get rid of the top people and then you will notice a difference. Let's get rid of the mayor and set an example that we the people of Haymarket make the town what it is and we put the people in office to work for us and we can have them removed just as easily when they fail to represent us properly. We need the mayor gone and any town official that has failed us. This includes the police department.
