It has been reported that a complaint has been filed against members of the Haymarket Police Department, including it’s Chief, involving inappropriate conduct towards a seventeen year old girl who was attempting to report a crime. Instead of assisting this crime victim, she was apparently questioned without her parent’s consent, subjected to verbal harassment, and even asked “Why can’t you be fat and ugly?” The complaint has been filed with the Prince William Commonwealth Attorney’s office, and I would expect that the case is now under investigation.
The complaint also states, “I was extremely afraid of Corporal Kenworthy’s behavior that he was displaying towards me and his inappropriate sexual questions that he was asking me as a minor without my parents present. I was being accused of being the victim of a sexual misconduct investigation and was being treated like a suspect by his questioning without my parents present.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard stories involving questionable behavior by the Haymarket Police, but this does seem to be the first instance where a thorough investigation might be undertaken. I don’t think even Paul Ebert can ignore this one.
There’s more on this here, on the bomb-throwing website for criticizing the leadership of the Town of Haymarket.
