24 Hour Police Coverage?

I know that most of you will find it hard to believe that the Chief of Police has deceived the Town Council and Citizens of Haymarket once again.

If you read this article, you will see that in June of 2004 the Police Chief requested an extra Police Officer so that the Town would have 24-Hour Police Coverage.

This has yet to happen! The Chief still only works 3 -4 days a week. They Sgt refuses to work weekends. They now have a Corporal (which really makes sense for a 5 man dept.) to work also.

This department has enough people to cover the Town for 24 hours. However, with the poor scheduling from administrators, this has yet to be done! Most nights the Town is left without police service. A citizen has to wait for Prince William County Police to arrive.

What are we paying extra taxes for? Why does the Chief need extra $$'s for this year's budget??

When is the Town Council going to wake up and require that the Chief of Police do his job or at least show up for 40 hours a week?

I would personally pay a PI to prove to the Town Council that the Chief doesn't work a full shift if I thought it would do some good. But, it wouldn't make a difference to them. They would just take some vacation time to cover it, make excuses for him, etc.

I will never understand why this Town will not get a responsible, intelligent, and beyond reproach Chief of Police!

Yeah Right

There will never be 24 hour coverage because there is not enough manpower to cover the town 24/7. I know because it doesnt take much to see that we only have 1 chief who makes up his hours. 1 Sgt. that works only Monday through Friday between morning hours. Then you have a Cpl. who works mid hours so he can enjoy time with his family. Then you have the last officer who works evening shift hours until sometime after midnight. We are missing coverage for one officer because he was recently fired so there went the 5th position of coverage. The officers also get to be off when a holiday comes around because the chief is just such a nice guy to give his officers off and careless with the citizens to leave them covered by PWC. Now I hear that the one and only good officer for the department is being suspended without pay for a false allegation. So now we only have three full time officers working for us and that should mean two since the chief doesnt do any work whenever he is around.
