It's not too early to start planning to be part of the second annual 5K Fun Run/Walk to benefit the Cancer Center at Lake Manassas.
Sponsored by Designer Fitness and Rehab Center, the event will start at 8 a.m. Oct. 14 at Heritage Village Plaza, near the entrance of Heritage Hunt in Gainesville.
Children ages 12 and younger are invited to participate in the one-mile Fun Run, which precedes the 5K Run/Walk.
The cost, which includes a shirt, is $28 or $15 for children 12 and younger. To register, stop by Designer Fitness at 6715 Leaberry Way in Haymarket or call (703) 5753-6440.
All proceeds will support the new cancer center which is a joint venture between Prince William Hospital and Fauquier Hospital. The 20,000-square-foot facility, which is being built at the intersection of U.S. 29 and Lake Manassas.
The center, which is expected to open for patients in October, will be state-of-the-art, according to Michael J. Schwartz, president/CEO of Prince William Health System.
"It will house the most cutting-edge high-tech equipment available, including the IMRT Linear Accelerator, which has been called the most significant technological advancement in radiation oncology in the past 10 years. It allows higher doses of radiation to be delivered to a tumor, while minimizing damage to surrounding health tissues."
