VCDL at Town Council Mtg 6/19?

Haymarket Town Council

I heard that Mr. Fusaro and others from VCDL were going to address the Town Council on 6/19 about the illegal seizure issue, but I haven't seen or heard anything about what happened. Was anybody there? Maybe I'll check the minutes on the official town webpage-- oh, wait, those haven't been updated since March!

VCDL

Yes, Phillip Van Cleave (President of VCDL) was there, to speak for the VCDL. Mr. Fusaro spoke about the incident. Two others spoke as well, one about the checkpoints (roadblocks) in general and one to support Mr. Fusaro.
The Council listened, but took no real action. Not that that comes as a surprise when the bulk of the Council backs the PD 100% no matter what.

My favorite part

I think my favorite part of the meeting was the person who spoke right after Mr. Fusaro. I especially liked when he compared abortion to the drinking and driving. I think it would have been better for the VCDL and Mr. Furaso if he had not spoken at all.

But Mr. Furaso did bring up some valid points, and we should all learn from the whole experience.

Also will anyone start to open carry now?

Open Carry

Oh, I've already started. I used to concealed carry pretty much everywhere, but I'm only open carrying in Haymarket now. Especially when going to Pickle Bob's (just next to Haymarket Police "Station"). I'm there on the 10th, resident7.

Quick Question

Are you going to be carrying to the Town Council Meeting?

Also isn't it considered an illegal area to carry due to being a government facility? I know if the school board has a meeting somewhere, that is considered school property. And that is illegal.

Also will the VCDL be there? At the other meeting, I think Dennis had said we would be addressing the council again.

Only on school grounds

The VCDL ran into that issue probably 6 months ago when a school baord met in some non-school facility (something like a fire hall or courthouse). One person was there was armed. The school board tried to claim that their presence automatically converted that facility to school grounds. Law said "nope". If the facility is not a dedicated school facility is isn't considered a school.... Imagine if I was at McDonalds and a school sporting team stopped there for lunch. Am I now carrying at a school facility?

usmc...check the law

It is not illegal to carry on local gov't property...only Fed Gov't property...court houses, schools, churches (during worship time) and places that sell alcohol for on premise consumption.
VA passed a law in '05 that made it illegal for localities to restrict carry more stringently than state law.

open carry

I'll open carry to the 10 July meeting if you do.
