Auxiliary Police Officers Wanted

So, I met one of the new auxiliary officers yesterday. I overheard him talking about some of the good things that the Town Police were doing: drug interdiction programs, sobriety checkpoints, immigration issues, gangs and bike rodeos for the youth. He said he was supposed to qualify this week and then be sworn in to start working the streets with Cpl. Kenworthy. He was talking about the new program and how it will start back up under Cpl. Kenworthy’s supervision this month. This particular gentleman worked with the Secret Service and Homeland Security.

He was telling this guy about how all of the previous troubles with the PD have been politically motivated and that the Council was beginning to turn things around and give the Chief more leeway.

Now, if I'm not mistaken, the Council didn't vote to un-suspend the program at its June 5th meeting. Wonder if it will be a topic on the 19th? Just what Jim Roop needs - more leeway! He’s putting a guy on the street with no patrol time under his belt – BRILLIANT!

How can the Chief can reinstate a program that was suspended by a Council resolution w/out Council passing a subsequent motion to allow it to be brought back?

Why the Council will allow him to advertise for reserve officers and to fill the positions when he has never submitted a report on it, I do not know.

How can they be certain that this go around with a reserve program will be any better than the last?

I guess others are right, from the night the Chief stuck his middle finger up at the Council and they didn't break it off, he's gonna do what he wants when he wants. The Council has no guts to stop him!

Apparently, one of the guys who they brought back in as an auxiliary was just axed, because, surprise, he didn't show up for his assignments as was the case before when he was asked to quit as an auxiliary the first time.

Way to go PD, keep hiring the winners.
